When I’m with my family and friends, I talk a lot about coupons, shopping strategies, stuff I get for free or insanely cheap, and money saving tips. It’s a big part of my daily life, so it tends to creep into my conversations. I’ve stopped counting the times someone has been in my house and mentioned something they needed to shop for (like cat food, toothpaste, razors, etc) and I’ve pulled out my box of free stuff handed them one (or five) of the item in question.
Being this frugal guru isn’t something I’ve aspired to be but, evidently, I’m turning into one. My friends have started prefacing their entries about finding a great deal on something with “Ida would be SO proud of me…”, which totally rocks my socks. When people in my life have a question about coupons or grocery shopping, they call me on the phone. I even have one friend who calls me when she gets stuff for a great deal or free. That makes me incredibly happy.
I even wrote a post not too many months ago about being with all of my sisters who were oohing and aahing over some amazing new ice cream flavor that a friend picked up on sale and brought to our get together. They heard “Triple Chocolate” and they all got the greatest giggle when I heard “Got it on sale”.
I have to say, I LOVE LOVE LOVE when the people who know me associate saving money and getting great deals with me. It makes me feel like I’m making some small impact with the things that I’m passionate about.
