Yes, I know.. this isn’t much of a surprise. The MegaMillions jackpot was estimated at $207 Million this week. Whenever the jackpot goes above $100 Million, we consider buying a ticket. When it hits over $200 Million, we figure “why not”. So, we took $4 of our “mad money” and bought 4 chances.
While we never imagine that we’ll actually win, we do build a lot of castles in the clouds between the purchase of the ticket and checking our numbers the day after the drawing. Mark and I have lots of wistful conversations starting with “You know what I’d do, if we REALLY won?”. This is the part that always makes me excited. The part that makes me the most excited is that our dreams aren’t only attainable by winning the lottery.
Our lottery dreams aren’t actually that huge, in the grand scheme of things. As a matter of fact, in just a few years, by living on the budget we’ve put into place (as soon as Mark heads back to the work force) we will be in a position to begin most of them. So what are these goals?
- Pay off all our debts
- Get a house that’s big enough to comfortably hold our family
- Take the kids on a vacation
- Make a sizable cash donation to the Performing Arts Magnet Program that Anna is a part of
Of course, there are a few things that we’d never do if we had to WORK for the money instead of winning the lottery. We wouldn’t pay off the mortgage for our relatives, or buy houses and cars for others. We wouldn’t put every child in our extended family through college. I guess that means we did do a LITTLE over-the-top dreaming… but none of it was selfish dreaming, so I’m ok with that.
What about you? What would YOU do if your family received $207 Million dollars?
