What To Do With All Of Those Newspapers

Now that I’m couponing like mad, I have absolutely been overloaded with Sunday Papers. I’ve been setting them aside for recycling, since I truly hate generating more trash. This morning, I decided that something HAS to be done. So far, I’ve found some really great resources. Since lots of you are couponers, I thought maybe you were having the same problems as me.

At Astrostar.com I found an article giving Eighty Uses for Old Newspapers. Some of them are kind of silly and impractical, but I really think I like the idea of using newspapers to line the bottoms of trash cans. That keeps any leaks or spills from being disgusting to clean out. Just change out the paper.

25 Extraordinary Uses for Old Newspapers was found at Essortment.com and really LOVED the suggestion that you wad up newspapers and put them inside tennis shoes and work boots to remove odors. That comes in very handy with teenagers!

CNN shared this article on 10 New Uses for Old Newspaper from This Old House. #7 reminded me of sprouting alfalfa seeds between wet pages of newspaper when I was a child, for a science project.

I even found Top 5 MacGyver Uses for Old Newspaper at Journalistopia.com. I’m not REALLY sure I’d advocate wadding it up and sticking nails inside to bludgeon someone… but uh… maybe that’s useful to someone?

Finally, I found 10 Uses for Newspaper – Cleaning and Household Uses at Happy Slob. I really like the idea of using newspaper to line the bottom of the fruits and vegetables drawers in the refrigerator. That’s brilliant.

I use newspapers as mulch in my gardens to keep the creeping grasses, like that damned Bermuda grass, out.

You can also make little pots out of newspaper to start seeds in. I need to look that one up. I use bathroom tissue and kitchen wrap rolls to make them.

They can also be used for a substitute for cat litter. More sanitary and neater than clay litters.
